back in nueva jersey.

i drove back to new jersey from north carolina today with my brother pj. we finished the 8 hour drive with a trip to cinco de mayo – a great mexican restaurant in the mexican area of new brunswick – and a six pack of pabst (in bottles). now we’re in highland park at our friend and fellow tourmate brian mcgee’s house geeking out and finishing the sixer. i’m not sure what i’ll be doing in the near future but it will probably be in many different places.

down to florida & back

hola from orlando,

i’m on the road for 10 days or so, playing lap steel for my brother PJ on a tour he’s doing with Brian McGee. im playing solo sets at some of the shows but mostly just enjoying sitting back and making sounds. we started in maryland, are now in florida for three days, and then headed back up via north carolina.

i’m currently sitting in the (mini)van being eaten alive by mosquitos, which is weird because i grew up in new jersey and they ain’t biting this time of year up there.  but enjoying the warmth of this strange state.

“Your Love Is Strange” has come.

This has been a long time coming, and I’m deeply glad this day is here. Some time ago I finished recording an album of songs called Your Love is Strange. For various reasons, mainly moving to Lucknow, India for a year to study a beautiful language called Urdu, and travelling around this country with my band/best friends Communipaw for another year, it hasn’t made sense to share this collection of these songs with you until now. You may have heard a couple of the songs at some point because I did post two of three as I finished them, and some very different versions of a couple of tunes appeared on Communipaw’s Big Blue, but the majority of this record should be a new experience for you. The making of this record involved some truly concentrated writing, recording, and mixing and I can sincerely say that, for whatever forces may have been at work and whatever conditions may have been present, I think this is one of the best complete collections of music I have made so far.

I’d also like to give a quick thanks to Keith Carne, the only other player on this record other than me. Town of a Thousand – Recording Video

i’m back in new jersey/new york after finishing a long tour with communipaw, down the east coast to florida, out to texas, back up through the midwest and then back east. i don’t really live in a specific place when i’m in the di-state area, but i’m always with very kind and amazing people. this is one of those times.

i’m still doing things, taking care of beeswax. getting records together. hopefully getting one of them out soon. moving to asheville, north carolina for the summer. and then after that to somewhere that is much farther from new jersey than north carolina, that you used to have to take a boat to get to. nowadays you can fly on a plane.

communipaw news…songs & tour

communipaw is going on tour. communipaw is a band that includes me. you can see all the tour dates on the right side of this page. we’re going down the east coast to florida, west to texas, up through the midwest, and then back east.

hello concerned lads and lasses,

i leave for a tour with communipaw this wednesday. 3 1/2 weeks, all the way down to texas (never been there) and florida (not since i was 8 yrs old) and some other interesting places like missouri. we’ll be opening for and backing a band called destry, which will be fun for me personally to play music without being ‘the singer’ and all that. it’s been a while since i just hung back and strum my guitar. you can see all the dates we’ll be playing on the right side of this page. we have shows at maxwell’s in hoboken, bar matchless in brooklyn, and kung fu necktie in philly, so if you’re local come out.

in solo music land, i’m in the midst of getting together artwork and some other things for the your love is strange lp release. and also trying to finalize the mixes for the gomti blues ep i recorded a couple weeks ago.

recorded an ep this weekend…

i spent the past two days recording songs i haven’t had the time to properly record since i wrote them in india between fall 2009 and spring 2010. communipaw plays some of the songs i wrote there these days, but there were more that i’ve been itching to get down, wondering for what i could use them. the past year has flown by, its hard to believe almost all of them are more than a year old. i did them all on my 1/4″ four-track tape machine, so they’ll have a similar (lack of) fidelity as did the songs on the ten thousand songs ep. i have no idea you fine people will get to hear them, but it will definitely be after the release of ‘your love is strange’.

hello all,

thanks to everyone for listening to the old tunes, i hope you’re enjoying them.

i’ll be playing a last minute solo show at asbury lanes in asbury park, nj next thursday with paul rosevear of readymade breakup and trevor from the group the end of america, a band that communipaw did a long weekend tour with a couple of months ago. i’ll be playing a whole bunch of new songs which i find exciting because i like songs and music and all that kind of stuff. do come out and listen and say hello. and bowl too if you like. and they also have good cheap drinks at a well padded bar. which i like. especially because i get a couple of those drinks for free.
